Objectives:
1) Take photos for art connects the world
2) Create a photo that combines parts of photos
2) Create a photo that combines parts of photos
Research:
Because I will be combining parts of photos, I could use the photo with the person holding a flag as inspiration to do something similar, but with one of my photos on a flag.

5 Step Critique:
Step 1: OBSERVE
This is a photo of my hand catching the drip off of an icicle. There are icicles that are to the left of the photo that are behind my hand and icicles that I edited in from another photo that I took to the right. The icicles that are to the right of the photo are more in focus and crisp because I took that photo in different light conditions and up close. The icicles to the left are not as in focus because my hand is in front of them, making y hand look more in focus. In the background of this photo is a mountain that I edited to make darker and contrast more with what is happening in the foreground and the white sky in the upper right hand corner. The droplet of water is also highlighted more so that it contrasts the dark background to make that more of the focal point of the image.
Step 2: DESCRIBE
Because this is a photo with 2 different kinds of icicles under different light conditions, they contrast greatly. This is a photo of my hand catching a droplet of water from a greyish/blue-green icicle. To the right of the photo are other icicles that I took from another photo that I captured up close. The background is the silhouette of the mountain with a white sky that contrasts it. To the left of the photo are the icicles from the original photo that aren't as in focus as the other ones because my hand was closer to the camera lense, making it more in focus than the ice. I highlighted the water droplet so that it contrasts with the dark background.

Step 3: ANALYZE
The most prominent element of design in this photo is texture. The icicles to the right of the photo have a very crisp looking texture. Because I took this element out of a different photo, it creates many different textures for the original photo with my hand. At the top of the icicles, the texture is really rough and bubbly looking. The rough texture fades a bit as the eye moves down the icicle (it gets smoother and lighter the farther down you look). At the bottom of he icicle there is water that is about to drip off, creating a smooth and glossy texture. The most prominent principle of design is focal point. The water droplet is highlighted against the dark background which is what draws your eye to that section of the photo.

Step 4: INTERPRET
The overall topic of "Art Connects The World" brought me to think about how everything in this world is art. In his photo I wanted to capture the idea that we are all connected in some way, shape, or form. Not only are we as people connected, but we are also connected to nature and nature is art. The main goal that I had for this photo was to show that art is all around us and it is always at our fingertips. The droplet of water about to drip onto m hand was to symbolize that if we reach out and notice the little things in life, we will hopefully see the beauty in life and the world that exists around us.

Step 5: Judgement
I believe this photo was successful in conveying the message of "Art Connects the World" by symbolizing that the world around us is beautiful and that it is just at the tip of our fingers. The darkness in the background made everything contrast and stand out because it created a simple background hat didn't distract from the main part of the photo (being the hand, icicles, and the water droplet). I could have done a better job while taking the photo to make my hand and icicles in the original photo in focus more because it looks a little pixelated. I think that I did a good job capturing the photo at the right time to get the water droplet mid air before hitting my hand. Another thing I could have improved on is editing between the icicles to where the viewer couldn't see the black streaks that came out of the editing that was not visible until printed out. Overall, I think this photo was successful, while there could have been minor critiques.
