This piece is my self directed project of a lightbulb with Silver Peak inside of it, with the filament turning into a waterfall, where the water is then coming out the bottom. The task was to come up with our own idea for something to draw that uses our previous knowledge of drawing and what we have learned in class. We were to come up with our own objectives that would be used to grade the project in the end. The key skills and knowledge in this project included being able to show the qualities of a glass bulb with shading techniques as well as creating the illusion that the mountain peak is inside the bulb. Some other important drawing and design skills that this work addressed include is the shading of the water coming out of the bottom of the bulb as well as constructing the piece with the rule of thirds in mind. In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in accurately representing a bulb with the details in the screw part as well as the highlights on the side of the bulb. I had challenges with blending the background and shading it so that it looks like the bulb is emitting light. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is the importance of shading each element of this piece. Because this drawing is black and white, every part of this drawing must be shaded to look as realistic as possible. In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of the way the light bulb turned out in it's shape and qualities of glass. I am also proud of the detail that I put in the screw at the bottom. I need to continue working on showing that the mountains are inside the bulb rather than just in the middle of it on the drawing.
