Objectives:
1) Take a photo of the confluence of the Green and the Colorado river from the overlook.
2) Edit the layers of rock above to make them contrast the river below.
2) Edit the layers of rock above to make them contrast the river below.
Research:
These images are giving me different ideas about what how to edit the photo and what time of day to take the photo. The confluence looks different when taken on a sunny day compared to a cloudy day. They also give me ideas about what angle to take the photo whether it is from straight on or if it's around the corner.

5 Step Critique:
Step 1: OBSERVE
Step 2: DESCRIBE
This is a photo of the confluence of the Green and the Colorado river. It was taken at the end of a 10 mile hike that lead to the overlook. On each side of the image are canyon walls that tower of the rivers. At the bottom of the canyon walls on each side is where the rock meets the river. The river forks off in the middle; the start of each of the rivers. Above the fork in the river is another canyon wall that spans across the top half of the image. At the very top of the photo is the blue sky with other rock formations in the distance. The canyon walls are reddish tan, there are bushes that outline the river that are bright green, and the river has 2 different colors where it begins to divide.
Step 3: ANALYZE
Texture is a very obvious element of design because of the canyon walls. The walls look very rough and bumpy from the thousands of years of exposure to the elements. It contrasts greatly with the smooth looking texture from the water. Because it was taken from so high up, it is nearly impossible to see the rapids down below, making for a smooth, silky texture. A principle of design that describes this photo is balance. The overlook lead to a spot in which each river and each canyon wall are balanced on each side with the fork in the middle, This photo looks very symmetrical.
Step 4: INTERPRET
With graduation being so soon, I think this is a good representation of what everyone goes through in these times. I think this image represents that we all grow up together and our parents are there along the way to guide us (representing the canyons walls that guide the river) but it comes to a point where we need to go our separate ways (the confluence). Our daily lives can be represented by many metaphors in nature.
Step 5: JUDGEMENT
I think this photo is successful in the way that it is balanced with the contrasting textures throughout. The metaphor of everyone going their separate ways, I think, is successfully portrayed in this image. The crispness of this photo also adds to the details that the viewer can see. Overall, I believe this photo is successful.
