This piece is a collage while using different parts of images to show depth. The task was to find different parts of pictures and create a collage showing a cohesive picture of a foreground, middle ground, and background. The key skills and knowledge of this project include successfully finding parts of photos that have each of these depths. The foreground in this photo is the tree in a desert landscape, the middle ground is the bus that is layered on top of the snowy mountains. Another aspect of the middle ground is the church that is to the left and the background is the green landscape with the ocean. Some other important drawing and design skills that this work addressed include making the whole thing cohesive while still being surrealistic. It is important to make it all come together as one, but with the nature of collages, they are going to look surrealistic. In my final product you will notice that I succeeded in using foreground, middle ground and background as well as making it work together in the piece, but I had challenges with the blue sky in the background of the tree. Ideally I would just have the tree in the foreground with no blue sky around the branches but I was unable to cut that close to the branches without ripping them because they were so thin. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is that collages can come together to make a whole piece without it looking like it is a bunch of objects thrown together. Collages can be surrealistic and make sense. In reflecting on this piece I am proud of how I was able to find each depth and have it all come together. I need to continue working on cutting the blue sky from the branches so that it is solely the tree.
