This piece was a negative contour drawing of an orange antique pot with a lid on top, with chain rings leaned against it. The task was to draw the outline of all the objects with no detail on the inside because the point of this project was to show the negative and positive space. The key skills and knowledge in this project included using black charcoal to draw everything in the background of the outlined objects. Some other important drawing and design skills that this work addressed include accuracy with the placement and size of this still life. In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in showing the negative space around the still life and in the holes of the chain rings. I had challenges with the chain rings on the left because they were faced the other direction so it was hard for me to make it look like they were chainrings since I was not able to show details in the positive space. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is that details can still be shown through the outline without having them on the inside of the subject. Viewers know that this is a pot with a handle and lid with chain rings leaned against it without having details on the inside. In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of how I was able to show consistency in the chain ring "prongs" while still rounding it out. I need to continue working on the black charcoal and the evenness of it.
