Objectives:
1) Take a photo of a fire up close to capture the details.
2) Play with the shutter speed to capture the sparks.
2) Play with the shutter speed to capture the sparks.
Research:
These images give me lots of ideas about what to take photos of. There are so many moments I can capture in a fire because every flame and spark is different. I can get an image of the bottom of the fire with the flames or I can take a picture of the sparks against the black sky. Playing the the shutter speed could be interesting because the sparks could turn into a bunch of lines of light.

5 Step Critique:
Step 1: OBSERVE
Step 2: DESCRIBE
This is an image of fire up close as the majority of the image is orange with a black background. Because the shutter speed was so slow, it created many long, scraggly lines of light from the sparks. The upper right and left hand corners are black because it was night when this picture was taken as well as a little bit of black in the lower left hand corner. The sparks created lots of detail in this image because of the amount of them and because the slow shutter speed drew them out across the photo.
Step 3: ANALYZE
The two most prominent elements of design in this image are color and line. The strands of light create lots of little lines and details that are more visible up close. Color is also the other main element in this image because the bright orange fire contrasts with the night in the background. The color of the orange varies a little bit within the fire because towards the top of the fire it is more orange and towards the middle it is more yellow because it is hotter. The main principle of design is balance. Because most of the image consists of the fiery orange color, the image is balanced because the bottom 3/4's of the image are bright orange with the top being the dark sky.
Step 4: INTERPRET
This image was taken to represent how there are so many details in life that we might miss because we aren't always paying close attention and time is going too fast. The slo shutter speed was able to capture every little spark and its journey out to the black sky but we wouldn't necessarily notice all of the little sparks because time is going too fast. We need to slow down and notice the little things.
Step 5: JUDGEMENT
I think this image is successful in conveying the message because of the little details in it, but I think that if it was more crisp and clear, it would draw the viewer's eye in closer. I also think the contrast between the bright orange fire and the night sky makes this image stand out more because of the two contrasting colors.
